Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to enter the healthcare industry?
From the very beginning, our focus has been on helping clients, with a foundation rooted in phytotherapy. As we expanded our client base, we decided to translate this traditional knowledge into healthcare products specifically designed for sleep, immunity, cold and flu, and more. Concurrently, my expertise grew and specialized in management, culminating in my doctorate. Today, I lead a promising company dedicated to developing innovative healthcare products.
What is the vision behind Dea Flores, and how did you come up with the idea for the company?
The vision behind Dea Flores is to transform the way people approach health and wellness by harnessing the power of natural products. Our goal is to provide individuals with effective, natural solutions that promote overall well-being and a healthier lifestyle. The idea for Dea Flores came from a combination of personal passion and professional insight. My family has always been deeply interested in natural remedies and their benefits, and we noticed a significant gap in the market for high-quality, reliable natural health products.
Can you elaborate on some of the key innovations your company has introduced?
Our greatest strength lies in our extensive knowledge, particularly regarding raw materials and their effects. We were pioneers in our market, being among the first to introduce chemotype raw materials and to produce NaTrue-certified organic cosmetics. We lead the industry in providing expert advice to clients at points of sale. Our products feature unique combinations and concentrations of herbal drugs. Most importantly, we handle every step of production in-house, ensuring the highest quality and consistency.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in your journey with Dea Flores, and how have you overcome them?
I can’t pinpoint a single major challenge, as businesses face a multitude of obstacles at different stages. Initially, we grappled with logistical issues, such as finding reliable and high-quality suppliers. This was followed by production challenges, which included investing in the right technology to ensure efficient manufacturing. Subsequently, we encountered marketing hurdles. Each year presents its own set of challenges. A recent example is the COVID-19 pandemic, which posed significant difficulties. Nevertheless, we have successfully navigated through all of these challenges.
How has Dea Flores impacted the healthcare landscape in Croatia and for the migrant communities you serve?
We take pride in our recent work, which has substantially increased awareness of the impact of natural products on health. In the pharmacy sector, we are market leaders, providing exceptional consulting services to our clients, offering them comprehensive solutions on a wide range of topics.
What leadership principles do you follow to ensure the success and growth of Dea Flores?
Leadership is a topic that is particularly dear to me. In my approach, I use a combination of transformational and participative leadership. It has been proven that transformational leadership has an additive effect—followers give more than is expected of them. On the other hand, I am a big supporter of giving people the freedom to learn and make mistakes. Therefore, our employees actively participate in defining their goals and plans and executing them. The proof of this is that we have no employee turnover at all.
What are your future goals for Dea Flores, and how do you plan to achieve them?
We want to continue to create and market high-quality and value-added products. In addition, becoming synonymous with “natural healthcare” products is something we are actively working on. Of course, internationalization is a big focus for companies operating in small markets. We strive to achieve these and other goals in the medium term by concentrating on the company’s internal capacities.
What advice would you give to aspiring healthcare leaders and entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in the industry?
It’s essential to test your ideas and have faith in them. Some ideas will pass the market, while some will not. When you recognize the “winners,” concentrate on them tremendously. Let them be a base or a micro-niche from which you will spread your influence on the market.
